Hunger Action Day Re-Cap

CHAC Banner

My name is Nebiyat Hagos I am a student at San Francisco State University. I was able to attend this year’s Hunger Action Day on May 20th, 2009 with the Food Bank’s Community Advocates Against Hunger. Since this was my first time attending Hunger Action Day I was excited to be a part of an event that advocates for food justice. The event was well organized and the teams were all well organized as well. Also having attended the training was also important and I had the opportunity to learn more about the different bills. In Sacramento we had our teams and met with the legislators or their representative and spoke to them about the anti-hunger legislation and advocated for food justice. Most of the team members spoke about their experience with hunger and how it affects them, their families or their clients. The legislators listened and asked questions. We engaged in conversation on the anti-hunger legislation that affect people or might affect families and individuals.

Hunger Action Day is truly a remarkable and fulfilling day. It gives people a chance to advocate for food justice. Participating in the Hunger Action Day gives you a feeling that you have done something about hunger. Especially at this time when so many people are experiencing hunger in our community.
